Note: During the move, I lost track of this project. I decided to discontinue it due to lack of interest. Therefore, this is the last post in the series, and it's not even a full month's worth of texts.
Day 1
To Blue: I can't believe they got two red cards.
I was out with friends while my soccer team was playing a game. Before I got home, I looked up the outcome and texted my husband about it. It was the opposing team that got two red cards.
Day 2
To Red: Luckily, you add in the broccoli last so if it's looking too full you can just stop, or you could add more broth. You'll do fine!
Remember that broccoli soup recipe I mentioned in last month's texts? Still talking about it. She was making it for the first time and I gave her pointers.
Day 3
To Black: Haha, ok! Sounds good. :)
I don't recall what this is about.
Day 4
To Indigo: So you think that it's going to be helpful overall?
Discussing a blow-up punching bag she'd purchased.
Day 5
To Indigo: It's just feeling a little limp after last night's workout! Haha.
The punching bag didn't survive the night. She sent me a picture of it. It looked like a limp penis.
Day 6
To Orange: Sounds like a plan!
Making plans, obviously, although I don't recall what they were.
Day 7
To Blue: FYI, we're going out for a slice of pizza. And I'm going to take [redacted] home before I come home.
I was out with friends & checked in with my husband because it was getting late.
Day 8
To Brown & Red: I think that's what [redacted]'s bringing but we prob can't have too much. *yellow wink emoji*
Discussing what we were bringing to a friend's Easter brunch the following day. I believe the substance in question was OJ & champagne.
Day 9
To Brown & Red: Yes, we want to hear a cockney accent!
I recall that we were joking around about Red's husband (he's British and we like to tease him by attempting our own terrible British accents), but I don't remember the exact details of what led to this text.
Day 10
To Red & Teal: Oh no! I'm sorry you're not feeling well. *yellow sad emoji* Honestly, another day this week or next would work better for me. Maybe Thursday?
We were supposed to do the dreaded Culver City Stairs but Red was sick. It ended up being a very nasty cold that lasted for weeks. We never did do the stairs before I moved away. (I did them once on my own when I first moved to LA and thought I was going to die.)
Day 11
To Azure: Thanks! I try to keep my work stuff on my gmail account. It's [redacted].
She offered to send me any job notices she thought I might be interested in.
Day 12
To Purple: I got them! Thanks! I can print them for us.
Tickets to a soccer game.
Day 13
To Azure: His brother literally just asked him if we want to go with him and his girlfriend to [redacted] for his 30th bday. [Redacted]'s like, "we'd love to but..."
This is the day my husband lost his job. I texted my friend about it, and about how my brother-in-law invited us on a trip right after we got the bad news.
Day 14
To Indigo & Brown: I could do another weeknight. I had just suggested Thursdays because it's close to the weekend but I don't mind staying out on a weeknight once in a while. *yellow smile emoji*
We spent months trying to plan a trip to the comedy club we had a Groupon for. It never worked out.
Day 15
To Red: You used 8 exclamation points. You must be feeling better. *yellow lol emoji*
Her prolific use of exclamation points is an ongoing joke between us.
Day 16
To Red: Ok, I'll text you when I get out!
I don't remember what this is about.
Day 17
To Orange & Yellow: His dad landed in the hospital today so it's been an A+ week so far. *yellow lol emoji* Some coffee or about a gallon of alcohol would be nice.
My father-in-law ended up in the hospital about 5 days after my husband lost his job. It sucked. My FIL is okay though.
Day 18
To Red: Well, a man needs his hobbies, I suppose.
I wish I remembered what this is about, but I don't.
Day 19
To Orange & Yellow: Thanks so much for the good food, beer, and conversation, ladies!
Self-explanatory.
Day 20
To Black: My mom used to wear a towel on her head when she was cold but didn't want to turn on the heat. Lol.
This is true but I don't remember why I told Black this.
Day 21
To Black: Awww, thanks! Will def try to make the next one.
She said my friends missed me at trivia night.
Day 22
To Red: Me too!
I don't know what this is about.
Day 23
To Beige: Definitely!
I don't know what this is about.
Day 24
To Red: Oh, soccer balls! I vote for soccer balls. *yellow wink emoji*
She was making a pair of pajama pants for her husband. I asked what fabric. She said he hadn't chosen yet, so I put in my two cents. Her husband is, like me, a footy fan but he did not choose soccer balls.
Day 25
To Blue: Okay. It's good to have a firm date.
He texted me with his start date for his new job.

Last Text of the Day: Month Five
Day 1
To Orange: Here’s “I’m a stupid cat!” [video link]
A video I’d told her about that I thought was hilarious. HERE is the link if you'd like to watch it; very NSFW language.
Day 2
To Azure: Anytime! Miss you too. If you do get a chance to make it down here we’ll soak up the sun and do a bunch of girl stuff.
She was supposed to come to town for a conference but had to cancel. We talked about her hopefully visiting at some other point in the future.
Day 3
To Indigo: Phew! I’ll leave the Spanx at home. That way I can fit in more munchkins. *yellow wink emoji*
She joked around that the Oscars party she was hosting was formal dress. Munchkins = those donut holes they sell at Dunkin’ Donuts. They were indeed served at the party.
Day 4
To Red: Okie dokie!
I believe this is a response to her saying she was on the way to pick us up.
Day 5
To Blue: Ok. Am I picking you up?
I think he got a ride that night.
Day 6
To Blue: Love you too.
Self-explanatory.
Day 7
To Orange: Never too full for you!
I’m talking about my schedule.
Day 8
To Lavender: Exactly! Haha. Hope you have fun in [redacted city name] this weekend!
We were discussing the soccer team her boyfriend follows. The full explanation is too long for something you probably don’t care about.
Day 9
To Maroon: Ok, let’s do [redacted business name]. It’s at [redacted address]. That’s where I saw [redacted famous person]. ;)
Making plans to meet up for coffee while he was in town.
Day 10
To Orange: [Redacted]’s watching it. I’m only half paying attention. The buzz I heard this week was that it was terrible.
The X-Files mini-series finale. It was terrible.
Day 11
To Brown, Teal, Red, Indigo, & Gray: Ok, no problem!
That’s a lot of people for a text chain I remember nothing about.
Day 12
To Teal: Yeah, I think we’re going to try it this year. Our taxes were really complex for a couple of years but they got simpler again.
Turbo Tax. Truly a fascinating conversation, lol. Side Note: We did indeed use Turbo Tax.
Day 13
To Beige: Despite a slight mishap (blender doesn’t work), we *red heart emoji* the soup. Thanks for the recipe!
I’m talking about this soup recipe. After Beige talked it up, it made the rounds of our friend circle. Everyone loves it.
Day 14
To Azure: Thought you might appreciate this. [Captain Jack Sparrow pic]
This was a “stages of writing” pic that used the different facial expressions of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Day 15
To Pink: I’m sure it’s because he receives excellent care at home. :)
Her dog, who had to have oral surgery but it wasn’t as bad as expected.
Day 16
To Blue: In that neighborhood I usually part up on [redacted] and walk down.
He was meeting me for an event & I wanted to help him out so he didn’t get frustrated with parking in this busy neighborhood.
Day 17
To Teal: I’m here! Found street parking.
Meeting her for a movie.
Day 18
To Green: Have you seen Deuce’s face? Will give you an even bigger laugh.
Oh boy. This was a mean-spirited text. The star player of my team’s arch-rival, Clint Dempsey of the Seattle Sounders, turned up at their season opener looking like someone had punched him in the face. I, and many others, don’t like this player because of the way he behaves (for example, he once got a 3-game suspension for slapping an opposing player in the no-no zone). I researched but never found out why his face was so messed up. Side Note: Deuce is his widely used nickname.
Day 19
To Orange & Yellow: Aww. Reading the book that movie is based on took my interest in mountain climbing from zero to negative.
After seeing “Everest,” Yellow said she no longer wanted to mountain climb. This was my response. The book I’m referring to is Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer.
Day 20
To Blue: I got in the car and that Phil Collins song you guilted me into turning off the other day was on. I listened to the whole thing. *purple demon emoji*
The song in question was “In the Air Tonight.” My husband hates Phil Collins, like a deep loathing that knows no bounds. My victory was short lived, as I heard this song repeatedly over the next several weeks and got sick of it.
Day 21
To White: Is Cowspiracy an anti meat eating film?
She said she was going to see this film. She’s vegetarian, so this was my educated guess. She never answered me and I forgot to look it up so I still don’t know what it’s about.
Day 22
To Orange & Yellow: Boooooo. I’m sorry you’re sick. :(
Self-explanatory.
Day 23
To Blue: Here.
Obligatory picking husband up from work text.
Day 24
To Red: Maybe next time we have a hankering we’ll go there instead of Scoops.
She asked me about an ice cream shop I visited with some of our mutual friends. She’s never been there. Side Note: “Scoops” is our jokey name for a yogurt shop we frequented. In a text chain last year, Red accidentally called it Scoops instead of its real name and none of us noticed for DAYS.
Day 25
To Sienna, Brown, Indigo, Teal & Red: Are there bad ones of him? ;)
Pictures of a particular tennis player, but now I can’t remember which one.
Day 26
To Orange: Those times would work for me as well!
Planning a friend date.
Day 27
To Red & Indigo: No, we’re nearly there now!
We went to our friends’ band’s gig in downtown LA. Indigo was supposed to go with us, but couldn’t get out of work on time. We chatted with her via text on the way (someone else was driving).
Day 28
To Beige: [Redacted] needs to learn the guitar solo first. *yellow wink emoji*
At our friends’ gig, I jokingly told them that next time I was going to request “Free Bird.” The following day, I got in the car and it was on the radio. It was such a weird coincidence, I had to text her about it. She said it was a sign they needed to add it to their repertoire.
Day 29
To White: Very true! He’s way sicker than me and he had to go into work today & he’s still there. Poor guy.
Talking about my husband. Given what was to come in 2 weeks (the company going bust out of the blue), I’m even more annoyed that he worked so hard when he was sick as a dog.
Day 30
To Blue: I’m here.
Picking him up from work.
To Orange: Here’s “I’m a stupid cat!” [video link]
A video I’d told her about that I thought was hilarious. HERE is the link if you'd like to watch it; very NSFW language.
Day 2

Last Text of the Day: Month Four
Day 1
To Blue: Here. Closer to [redacted street name]. Couldn't get over in time.
Picking my husband up from work. I would usually try to park right in front of his office but on that day I couldn't get over in time on the busy two lane road to do so.
Day 2
To Blue: Here alley.
And sometimes I had to pick him up in the alley behind his office.
Day 3
To Indigo, Red & Brown: *lol emoji* I can already imagine how that went.
Indigo told us she had a funny story from work that she was calling "the invisible door." It didn't quite go as I imagined, but it was indeed funny.
Day 4
To Blue: On street. Just saw a bunch of open meters.
He asked me if there was parking where we were meeting our friends.
Day 5
To Orange & Yellow: I'd be up for both of those things. *yellow smiley emoji*
Not totally sure what "things" I was talking about. Probably coffee and happy hour. Perhaps coffee and beach clean up.
Day 6
To Brown, Red & Indigo: It's hard for me to even get a laugh out of this stuff. It's too real.
We were talking about Donald Trump.
Day 7
To Red, Indigo, Brown & Gray: I'll practice my Blue Steel!
In a conversation about what movie to watch for movie night, we were joking around about watching "Zoolander 2" instead of one of the Oscar nominees.
Day 8
To Indigo: If I see one I'll immediately throw myself on its claws so I don't have to live through what Leo did. Lol. Thanks for the ride!
We ended up watching "The Revenant," which we all found incredibly traumatizing. I was going on a hike the following day, and Indigo told me to be on the lookout for bears.
Day 9
To Red: I can already hear [redacted] saying something like, "It wasn't that violent! You guys are just wimps!" He watched this movie called Ironclad a few months ago that had positively revolting violence & loved it.
Still discussing "The Revenant." She wondered what my husband would think of it. He still hasn't seen it.
Day 10
To Brown & Indigo: I'll prob get there around 7-7:10.
Coordinating for a movie showing (Oscar nominated shorts) we attended.
Day 11
To Brown, Indigo & Gray: I saw a dead cat in the road on the way home. Like I wasn't depressed enough already. *yellow sad emoji*
Some of the Oscar shorts were very depressing (but so good).
Day 12
To Silver: Thanks. So sorry to cancel last minute. Hope you ladies have a blast!
I was supposed to go to a ladies night but I wasn't feeling well. I think I was dehydrated.
Day 13
To White: Awesome, thanks!
She offered to look up something we were talking about going to.
Day 14
To Blue: I put my foot down a little too hard while walking and now I have all the pain.
I started out the year on a Couch to 5K program and somehow injured my leg (bad shoes I think). I nursed this injury for a couple of weeks. It's better now but I haven't restarted the running program.
Day 15
To Blue: Here darling.
Picking him up from work.
Day 16
To Blue: Correction: I would consume the shit out of that.
Haha! I no longer recall what delicacy we were talking about.
Day 17
To Pink: Sounds good! :)
Making plans to go see a play.
Day 18
To Pink: Ok, just text me when you get here and I'll come out!
Still talking about the play. It's called "Swarm Cell." It was super interesting & very well-acted but one of the actresses had a medical emergency halfway through and so the audience was asked to leave. I never got to see the rest of the play & never heard if the actress was okay.
Day 19
To Red: Hope you guys find something to do in [redacted city name] tonight! Good luck at your run tomorrow!
This seems self-explanatory.
Day 20
To Gray: Will do!
She asked me to save a seat at our friends' show.
Day 21
To Indigo: I hope so! Especially since it's so nice out. Sucks to be sick in nice weather.
She hadn't been feeling well.
Day 22
To Blue: Okay, be right down.
He was picking me up for once!
Day 23
To Sienna: Thanks again for the invite! I had a great time.
We went to Korean BBQ. Om nom nom.
Day 24
To Red & Gray: I can meet at either place, no problem!
Coordinating for a trip to the LA County Museum of Art.
Day 25
To Red, Indigo & Brown: The phenomenon is spreading: [website link]
A few days before, we'd discussed, via text, the severed feet phenomenon, which I'd heard of before, but none of them had. It had been a while since I'd heard of any more feet being discovered, so I was surprised when an article about fresh feet popped up right after our conversation.
Day 26
No texts sent.
Day 27
To White: Looking forward to it!
Hiking, I think.
Day 28
To Gray: Haha! I would totally be like, "Om nom nom, sorry, got lost."
She went to a maze made of cake. I was jealous.
Day 29
To Red: Should be fine. I may take the ride both ways, depending on how late it is. We'll see!
We were going to play tennis. I didn't have the car, and so I was planning on walking there and having her drive me home after. She offered a ride both ways. In the end, it rained and we didn't get to play tennis at all.
Day 30
To Gray & Red: Curse you! /shakes tiny fist
I believe Gray sent a picture of the precursor to the awkward sex scene in "Anomalisa."
To Blue: Here. Closer to [redacted street name]. Couldn't get over in time.
Picking my husband up from work. I would usually try to park right in front of his office but on that day I couldn't get over in time on the busy two lane road to do so.
Day 2

Last Text of the Day: Month Three
Day 1
To Blue: I have a ride home. She has not been drinking.
I went to a whiskey tasting with some friends. I had my husband on "chauffeur" duty. He dropped me off and anticipated picking me up, but one of my friends didn't drink at the tasting so she drove me home.
Day 2
To Red: Of course! If you think of anything, let me know.
Discussing a holiday dinner that she was hosting.
Day 3
To Orange & Yellow: Thursday is good! If you know of anywhere Christmas-y, I'm up for it. Lol.
Making plans to get together before the holiday. Yellow expressed an interest in going somewhere festive.
Day 4
To Orange & Yellow: I don't mind! I discovered today that their hot chocolate is pretty delicious. *yellow smiley emoticon*
We ended up deciding on a place I'd just been.
Day 5
To Orange & Yellow: Love you gals!
Self-explanatory.
Day 6
To Copper: I'm sure you would enjoy that!
We were discussing the show "Jessica Jones." He said that he felt she could beat him up. The above was my response to that.
Day 7
To Red: You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it! *yellow smiley emoticon* Hoe [sic] you and [redacted] have loads of fun today!
She thanked me for a gift I gave her. I didn't discover the typo for days and once I did I was highly amused.
Day 8
To Red: I'm a bit sorry that [redacted] is watching. It's not a very good game.
Talking about a Seahawks game. The Seahawks are my husband's team.
Day 9
To Red: Okay, just let me know! I'm flexible. I'll ask [redacted] what he thinks about doing the escape room.
Making some holiday plans. I still have not done an escape room, but want to.
Day 10
To Red: I've been wanting to watch that but not sure if I want to feel that angry. Lol. You should watch Death Row Stories (also on Netflix) if you want an extra dose of rage.
She suggested I check out the show "Making a Murderer." I still haven't seen it.
Day 11
To Red: Preferably one without a cushion.
We were joking around about her tendency to fall asleep the second she starts reading a book. In coming up with ways for her to read in discomfort, I recommended she get a stool without a cushion.
Day 12
To Red: We're here!
Meeting for dinner.
Day 13
To Red, Indigo & Brown: That works for me!
Making plans for a get together.
Day 14
To Red: Just woo hoo instead. ;)
Oh gosh. So, last year some of us went to a taping of "The Price Is Right." Since then, we've poked fun at ourselves about how much "woo hooing" we did during filming (they have employees on stage directing you how much noise to make and when). So she was talking about how she was going to scream during something scary she was going to do and I made this lame joke.
Day 15
To Red & Black: No idea! I found out about the cleric when I read an article about a more violent protest about it in Iran.
Earlier in the day, we'd gone on a hike, followed by brunch. On our way to brunch, we stumbled across a peaceful protest and had no idea what it was about. By accident, I later discovered that it was about a cleric executed in Saudi Arabia.
Day 16
To White: Hi! I hope you guys had fun in [redacted]. :) [Redacted] and I are planning a game night this Sat if you're interested/available.
Pretty self-explanatory. She and her husband did plan to come but she got sick. Boo.
Day 17
To Brown, Red & Indigo: *wide eyed embarrassed emoticon*
I don't remember exactly what I was embarrassed by. I believe it was either sexy jokes or pics (of famous men).
Day 18
To Orange: I'll keep my fingers crossed! Whenever [redacted] gets sick, I always catch it but he rarely catches stuff from me.
We were sharing a hope that her boyfriend wouldn't catch the terrible cold she'd had.
Day 19
To White: Ok. I feel like you did right before you left that night but [redacted] can't recall. Maybe [redacted] will!
We were trying to figure out if they'd paid us for some tickets. They had (her husband remembered).
Day 20
To Blue: I've been waiting for 25 minutes. Should I go?
We were meeting up to attend a couples happy hour. He said he would be out in ten minutes and 25 minutes later I sent this text. Not sure if my pissy tone comes across. Lol.
Day 21
To Orange: We have: veggies & hummus, chips, cheese & crackers, cookies, beer, and soda.
The menu for game night.
Day 22
No texts sent.
Day 23
To Blue: Here.
Picking him up from work.
Day 24
To Teal: It's called Santa Ynez Falls trail.
I invited her along on a hike another friend and I were doing. She wanted to check it out online before committing. She ended up not going.
Day 25
To Brown, Red & Indigo: Yes, Tuesday. I'm also open but wonder if we could have a slightly later start than we normally do, like maybe 7 or 7:30?
Trying to arrange a get together. In the end, we didn't meet up on Tuesday.
Day 26
To Silver, et. al: Are you sure he's not 5'10"?
Piggy backing on a conversation from earlier in the evening, joking about how some men lie about their height online. (I'm not including the other recipients because they're not people I normally text, so I don't want to assign them color designations.)
Day 27
To Brown, Red & Indigo: OMG, let's do this!
After the Tuesday plans fell through, and much discussion of other possible dates, we finally found one that worked.
Day 28
To White: Congrats! It looks good to me.
She sent me a picture of a cake she made in honor of her NFL team winning a play off game.
Day 29
To Yellow & Orange: Ok! See you ladies tomorrow. Can't wait!
Self-explanatory.
Day 30
To Red: Well, we'll have to think of something really fun to do!
Making plans for while her husband was out of town.

Last Text of the Day: Month Two
Day 1
To Orange: Hopefully you found it early! And yes, I'm glad you live on the second floor. You'd probably lay awake like this if you weren't [sic]: O.O.
Discussing a newly discovered pest problem where she lives.
Day 2
To Indigo: They never are as tall as they seem on TV! Haha.
Actors. They pretty much never are as tall as they seem on screen. Although I recently saw Mark Sheppard and he was actually taller than I expected, probably because his co-stars are quite tall themselves.
Day 3
To Red: *smiley emoticon* That game was nerve wracking. It's a little bad for us that they got a goal but as long as we hold it together next game we should be fine.
Yes, soccer again. During these first two months of texts, my team was in the playoffs. They made it all the way to the final (which they won). At any rate, my kind-hearted friend, who cares nothing for soccer, texted me because she knew my team had just won an important game.
Day 4
To Blue: Ok. I'm en route.
Picking him up from work.
Day 5
To Red: Haha, I doubt that!
I had apologized for my road rage while driving earlier. She said that her road rage is worse than mine, which I sincerely doubt.
Day 6
No texts sent.
Day 7
To Red & Brown: We should plan some girl time for next week!
Self-explanatory.
Day 8
To Gold: Cool. Thanks for thinking of me! I'm getting excited for my speed walk. :P
She and a mutual friend were doing a 10K, and she invited me to join them by doing the 5K portion. I accepted with the intention to walk the 5K while they ran the 10K, since I had no training. She sent me a promo code for a few dollars off the registration fee.
Day 9
To Red & Gray: Why don't you ladies go without me? I hope you have a good time & that the movie is great! BTW, I think [redacted] really wanted to see that movie if you'd like to see if she wants to go.
The three of us had been talking about seeing a movie together, but the time that worked best for them didn't work well for me. Plus, they wanted to see a movie I didn't ("Secret in Their Eyes"), so I bowed out. Turns out it was for the best (see below).
Day 10
To Red & Gray: Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the ArcLight either. Sorry the movie was poo.
So they went and they hated both the theater and the movie. I didn't like the theater either (it's where I saw "The Night Before").
Day 11
To Red: And I just got ours. :)
Tickets to an event.
Day 12
To Red: Lol. The bus is super easy. I think you'll find you won't mind it for short trips! But I won't tell [redacted] that. ;) Thanks for the offer of a ride home. I'll prob take you up on that.
Remember that girls night we talked about back on Day 7? That would take place on Day 14, and we were discussing how we were each getting to it. My friend doesn't want her husband to know how easy taking the bus is so he'll keep chauffeuring her, haha.
Day 13
To Blue: *three different colored heart emoticons* One from each of us.
Oh man, busted being a total sap to my husband. I was sending him one heart each from me, our cat, and our dog. I'll go die of embarrassment now.
Day 14
To Blue: Yep.
Answering some question; I have no idea what it was.
Day 15
To Red & Indigo: I hope so! We missed you at HH last night.
Expressing that I'd like to see Indigo soon, because it had been a while. HH = happy hour.
Day 16
To Green: I hope so! Or he can surprise us and get 3.
Discussing the upcoming soccer final. One of our forwards is known for always scoring a "brace" (two goals). I was being optimistic. In the end, he scored no goals, but two of our other players had a goal each.
Day 17
To Green: Ahh, a slow, calculated revenge.
His brother-in-law was able to go to the soccer final in Columbus, and both of us were jealous. We were (jokingly) discussing Green's plans for revenge on said brother-in-law.
Day 18
To Indigo: I'll never turn down a free drink! :D
At least, I'd never turn down a free drink from a friend.
Day 19
To Blue: Lol, nice save.
He said something borderline "bad" to me but managed to turn it into a compliment. It was all in good fun.
Day 20
To Blue: Yes.
It's so hard to remember what I'm responding to with these one-word answers.
Day 21
To Gray: That book I was talking about is Double Cross by Ben Macintyre. :)
Self-explanatory. Good book, by the way. I recommend it!
Day 22
To Blue: Yes. I'm out with the girls.
He asked me if I'd eaten dinner, forgetting that I was out for the evening. He was just getting off of work.
Day 23
To Red: That happens!
I'm no longer sure what happens.
Day 24
To Indigo, Brown & Red: I was thinking of making it a husband-free event (for me, not opposed to other husbands going). So I could take your other ticket if you don't mind. And pay you for it of course!
Making arrangements to buy a Groupon for a comedy show.
Day 25
To Gray: Lol. #1 (because we're the best obvs).
I can't explain this one without giving away some personal information, so I won't. Just know that I was joking around.
Day 26
To Gray: Sounds good!
I believe this was in response to arrangements for an event we were going to.
Day 27
To Black: Haha! Well, I wouldn't agree to hikes inside me. ;)
Making a joke out of a typo of hers.
Day 28
To Silver: Oh, now he's offering to watch a Jane Austen film with me because he knows the conversation has annoyed me. Lol.
Discussing an upcoming Christmas party. I wasn't sure if significant others were invited (many of the women are single), and so I asked my friend if they were, but then my husband was being wishy washy about whether he wanted to go, which annoyed me.
Day 29
To Yellow: Hey, I'm not going to bring my phone so here's [redacted]'s number in case you need to get a hold of us: [redacted number].
On our way to see "The Force Awakens." Most of us were carpooling together, but Yellow and her husband were meeting us at the restaurant before the movie. My Jedi costume didn't have pockets.
Day 30
To Silver: He didn't really seem like he wanted to too [sic] so he's been relieved of that duty. :)
My husband didn't go to the Christmas party mentioned on Day 28.
To Orange: Hopefully you found it early! And yes, I'm glad you live on the second floor. You'd probably lay awake like this if you weren't [sic]: O.O.
Discussing a newly discovered pest problem where she lives.
Day 2

Last Text of the Day: Month One
Day 1
To Red: Awesome! Thanks. That’s very reasonable. I’ll check it out.
She gave me the information to a reasonably-priced naturopath.
Day 2
To Orange: Yay! Thanks for being flexible. What time would you guys like to come over? 6:30 maybe?
We were arranging a couple's "date."
Day 3
To Blue: There’s a blue hair staining one of the shelves in the refrigerator. How does that even happen?
Lol! My husband regularly dyes his hair blue and that stuff gets everywhere. Everywhere! The shower, the sinks, the toilet, the counters, the walls, his pillowcases, his towels, and yes, even the refrigerator, all get blue stains!
Day 4
To Yellow: We watched a Next Gen episode with Q. Now we’re about to watch The Hangover because [redacted]’s never seen it. *yellow smiley emoticon* That event sounds awesome! Hope you’re having fun.
Yellow and her husband were supposed to join us for that couple's "date" but her husband double booked them without her knowledge, so she asked me what she was missing out on.
Day 5
To Green: Feel better?
Discussing the outcome of a game the soccer team we both follow had just played.
Day 6
To Yellow & Orange: Hi ladies! My editing work is going much better than expected. I’m up for meeting for donut day this week if you are. Could do Thurs or Fri morning.
This one seems self-explanatory.
Day 7
To Blue: Ok.
Not sure about this one. Probably a response to him asking me to pick him up from work.
Day 8
To Red: Of course! I'll bring them with tomorrow night.
I lent her some items for a Halloween costume.
Day 9
To Purple: I need to sleep for approximately 10 hours now. I'm beat. Haha.
The soccer team I follow had just played the most epic playoff game ever. It was genuinely emotionally exhausting.
Day 10
To Yellow & Orange: Haha, adorable!
A response to the picture Yellow sent of her Halloween costume.
Day 11
To Yellow & Orange: You look so cute as a banana!
Yes, still talking about the costume. Yellow went as a banana, her husband as a gorilla.
Day 12
To Indigo: Yay! Let me know if you want to ride with us. :)
Discussing a bonfire we were both going to the following weekend.
Day 13
To Yellow & Orange: Ladies, are we still on for dinner and a movie tomorrow night?
We were.
Day 14
To Black: It's just off Sunset near the PCH. It's on the shorter side but it's a good hike.
Discussing a hike we were going on.
Day 15
To Blue: No thanks.
He asked me if I wanted him to bring me something home for dinner.
Day 16
To Indigo: Just trying to help you out! Haha.
I believe we were discussing deploying a decoy for her in her seat at work so she could nap under the desk. I had suggested that we give it a recorded tape that was motion sensitive and would say things like, "You look great in that shirt today, Suzy!" whenever someone walked past.
Day 17
To White: Okay, I'm heading out! My phone says 25 minutes but it's frequently a lying liar who lies.
I was heading over to her house. The map app on my phone doesn't know how to deal with LA traffic.
Day 18
To Indigo & Brown: You guys are cracking me up!
Talking about something very weird we saw at the bonfire. Lots of alien jokes were involved.
Day 19
To Indigo & Brown: Well, yeah, he doesn't want to have another one at 60.
I don't recall what prompted this conversation, but I'm pretty sure we were talking about a guy having a kid at 60.
Day 20
To Blue: I'm sorry baby.
I think he was upset about being stuck at work super late for like the millionth time in a row.
Day 21
To Blue: He could have given you a piggy back ride to the garage. *yellow wink emoticon*
Joking about one of his co-workers carrying him to his car, although I'm not sure why.
Day 22
To Yellow & Orange: Either happy hour, beach clean up or coffee would work for me. *yellow smiley emoticon*
In the end we decided on happy hour.
Day 23
To Indigo: That's the plan eventually!
I don't remember. I think we were talking about marketing my next book.
Day 24
To Blue: Our sound bath thing is at 12. I think it lasts an hour. We'll probably at least grab a coffee or some food or a drink or something before we drive back. So I'm thinking maybe 5-6 p.m. but I don't know for sure.
He asked me about my plans with some friends that weekend.
Day 25
To Red: Lol. I got that.
She made a joke (which I got) and then explained it to me. Probably much funnier to us than it is to you, dear reader.
Day 26
To Pink: Thanks!
She wished me a good time with my brother, who was soon to visit.
Day 27
To Gray: Oh cool, it's finally opening! We should def plan a trip there.
Discussing a new movie theater that just opened in town.
Day 28
To Green: Boring, uninspired, and lackluster? Sounds like a Klinsmann-coached game.
Me complaining about the coach of the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team. I'm not a fan.
Day 29
To Blue: *purple demon emoticon* Speed demon.
He told me to drive safely. I pretended that I wouldn't.
Day 30
To Blue: Yeah. It's intense.
Pretty sure I'm talking about soccer again.
Last Text of the Day: Maintenance Post
The idea for this series came about when I was texting with my husband a few months ago. I believe that either the first or a new trailer had just come out for “The Force Awakens” and we were talking about that. After sending him a rather long text about Adam Driver’s role in the film, I thought to myself, “Oh my God, I’m such a nerd. What if that’s the last text I ever send?”
Amused, I decided to keep track of the last text I send every day and to review them after a month or two, to see if I could even remember what I was talking about.
As the months passed, however, I grew ambivalent about the project. I now worry that there’s too much navel-gazing involved here. Therefore, I’ve put off posting the project for a while. While I’m still ambivalent, I decided to proceed. If my readers don’t find it interesting, or if I continue to feel uncomfortable with it, I will discontinue it.
Firstly, here were the rules I set for myself about the project:
1. No sending any end-of-day “funny/good” texts in order to make my texting seem more interesting.
2. No NOT sending a text just because I think the one I sent before it is funny/better.
3. No posting any texts that are about someone else’s personal issues. Fortunately, this hasn’t come up.
4. No posting sexts. This also hasn’t come up because my husband and I don’t sext, but just in case.
5. All names used in-text will be redacted.
Secondly, I’m feeling very concerned about privacy. Originally, I was going to refer to my textees by their initials but eventually decided that an enterprising snoop could still figure out who they were. Instead, I decided to assign each person a color (i.e. red, orange, etc.) name. This will be entirely random. That is to say, the color will not be indicative of anything about the person, such as hair color or favorite color or whatever. Exception: my husband, to whom I’m giving the designation Blue, because he loves blue.
When I started this project, I expected it to prove to me that my life is as boring/mundane as I think it is. I honestly thought nearly all of the texts would be to my husband, and that most of those would be thinks like “okay” and “here” (i.e., me coordinating picking him up from work). I also thought there would be a lot more days where I didn’t send any texts at all. What I discovered is that I text a lot, with a wide variety of people, and that our conversations cover a range of topics (although I do talk about soccer a lot).
It’s been an interesting experiment for me. I hope that you find it interesting as well!
